# Image Attribution & Licensing — Sea Asparagus Venture (working title) This file documents every third-party photograph used on the local website prototype. The venture has **not** registered a company name, logo, or domain, and these images are used only for an internal, local design review. Each entry records the rights needed to use the image on a public website so the founder can confirm before any deployment. All source imagery was obtained from **Wikimedia Commons** (the media repository of the Wikimedia movement). The original, unmodified files are kept in `./originals/` so licensing can always be re-verified against the upstream file. Access date for every file below: **2026-08-14**. --- ## 1. No cultivated product or commercial harvest is depicted. --- ## Licensing obligations summary - **CC BY** (crop closeup) and **CC BY-SA** (hero, habitat) require visible attribution and a licence link wherever the images appear publicly. - **ShareAlike** licences (CC BY-SA 3.0 / 4.0) require that any adaptation (the resized/cropped web versions here) be released under the same licence if the adapted image is shared publicly. Keep this in mind before any public deploy. - Attribution is also rendered visibly on the page (footer + per-figure captions) to satisfy the attribution requirement. --- ## Candidate images considered and REJECTED These were evaluated against the brief (no fake/implied existing operation; confident licensing) and deliberately **not** used: 1. **Westham Island Bridge aerial view.jpg** (Wikimedia Commons, CC0 / public domain) — Aerial of the Fraser River estuary / Westham Island, BC. Rejected: the frame prominently shows intensive dyked farmland and a large **commercial greenhouse**, which could imply an existing agricultural operation and conflicts with the "no implied existing farm" constraint. CC0 would have allowed use, but the subject was the disqualifying factor. 2. **Coastline Victoria Vancouver island (43814637405).jpg** (CC BY 2.0, dronepicr) — Dallas-Road-type Victoria waterfront with people, a kayak, and a stone retaining wall. Rejected in favour of the wilder East Sooke frame for a calmer, people-free hero; licensing was fine. 3. **Beach at Pacific Rim National Park.jpg** (CC BY-SA 4.0, Dunmaghlas) — Foggy Pacific Rim beach. Rejected as hero because heavy fog hides the ocean/ horizon and reads as low-contrast for a hero backdrop; licensing was fine. Could be revisited for a secondary atmospheric band if desired. 4. **Sarcocornia pacifica salad / glasswort-salad images** (CC BY-SA 4.0, E4024; Turkey) — Plated prepared glasswort. Rejected: prepared-food imagery could imply an existing product, and the specimens are not identified to our BC species. 5. **USFWS salicornia pacifica (23831012655).jpg** (Public domain, USFWS) — A single specimen. Considered for the crop slot; rejected in favour of the cleaner jkirkhart35 macro. Licensing (US government work, public domain) was fine. 6. **Generic Commons salt-marsh / estuary searches** (e.g. "British Columbia salt marsh", "Boundary Bay salt marsh") returned mostly unrelated scans, old book plates, or non-BC locations. Not used; subject/location could not be confirmed. No image was copied from Google Images search results directly. Every retained image traces to a named photographer and a Commons file page with a stated licence.
